March for Jesus (07 Sept. 2025)

Introduction - At the end of this week on Saturday, a group of churches in the Monessen area will take part in a “Victory March for Jesus.”  I believe I am to take some time today to explain why this is a good idea and why everyone who can should participate.  First, and probably foremost, is the very example of Jesus Himself, as He arranged the use of a young donkey so He could be the center of a parade honoring Himself as the King:

Luke 19:29-40 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mountain that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them. 33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34They said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35And they brought it to Jesus, and they threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36Now as He was going, they were spreading their cloaks on the road. 37And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting:“BLESSED IS the King, THE ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39And yet some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!” 40Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these stop speaking, the stones will cry out!”  NASB

Notice several important points about this procession, or parade, which is called “the triumphal entry” by many teachers:  First, God Himself organized and promoted it.  It was not a group of his followers who wanted to have a Jesus rally.  This is undoubtedly a precedent to be duplicated in many ways and in many places by us Christians, the people whom Jesus has saved.  The rally we will have on Saturday is not of our own making.  We are literally exalting the King of the eternal Kingdom of which we are subjects, and following the godly precedent of Luke, John, Mark, and Matthew (all four gospels.) This was done just before the crucifixion of Jesus, a climactic even which changed the world forever!

1 Peter 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN PEOPLE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR GOD’S OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. NASB

Second, it was to be an exuberant public display filled with vocal announcement and praise to Jesus. Unbelievers and the ungodly will want to silence the praise; God instead wants it amplified.  He is so earnest about having His praises known throughout the creation that He will literally cause rocks to shout! How far the church has retreated from this! We are so afraid to offend anyone that we stay secretively cooped up behind four walls.  WE were that ones He meant to be in the public square, WE are the ones given the Dominion Mandate of Genesis 1:26-27, not the believers of other faiths.  In this country, we still have the right to peaceful assembly. We must use this right while it is still relatively easy to do, and never stop using it even if our government turns against us.  Imagine being in China, where to stage a public parade for Jesus would almost certainly end up in imprisonment.

Third, it is designed to offend the unspiritual and the ungodly.  I am not speaking of offending people because of arrogance or carelessness.  On the contrary, demons should be severely offended so that they are driven out of areas of the city, perhaps even out of the individuals they inhabit.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. NASB

Acts 8:6-8 The crowds were paying attention with one mind to what was being said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing. 7For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed or limped on crutches were healed. 8So there was much rejoicing in that city. NASB

Joshua 6:1-5 Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out and no one came in. 2But the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have handed Jericho over to you, with its king and the valiant warriors. 3And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. 4Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight ahead.” NASB

This march will result in spiritual warfare! According to the Scripture, demons really seek a human through which they can express themselves and do work for Satan.  When they are not in a human body, they “travel through dry places, seeking a resting place.”  Demons need to rest.  They do not have a global, all-seeing knowledge of their predicament.  Neither does Satan, for that matter. They are not all-powerful.  Just as the presence of Philip (with the spirit of Jesus inside) spontaneously moved them out of people, our presence moves them out of people, and consequently out of our town.  Areas of the town which are poverty-ridden and drug-infested can be turned to peace, order, and prosperity through this type of warfare.

We are not imitating a physical assault on the city of Monessen, as God did against the city of Jericho, so we are not interested in the detailed instructions for the priests and ram’s horns and repeated circling as the Israelites did at Jericho.  We do understand that we can cast demons out with a word and that our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against heavenly agents.

Conclusion - From our scriptural knowledge of demons, there is a finite number of demons on the earth and in the heavenlies. They seek places to be at rest; that means there must be close to a finite number in any location, because they are location-bound, not omni-present.   That means that when we unite and multiply our numbers, we are gaining an advantage.  We show up and begin singing and shouting praises to God; they hear us and run.  This march is your chance to really do something very effective to change the life of our city.  I have personally seen the effects of last year’s Victory March on city life, through statistics reported at city council meetings, improvements in the city’s infrastructure, improvements in the city’s budget and improvements in the lives of people.  The whole city has gone forward not backward.  So, WE NEED YOU! What if the Lord has 20 or 30 demons He has arranged for you to “scare out of Dodge” so to speak?  WE NEED YOU to march with us.  March for Jesus!
